AHHHHHH,,,,,,,,,,,,,It hurts, but feels soooooo good.   I was in the middle of a deep tissue massage in the spa of the Cache Creek Resort Casino.   Jennifer-my masseuse, had the strong hands necessary to deliver a really good massage.   In the next room, Joy was having a Swedish massage being performed by Tiffany.  We both left the rooms feeling like a bowl of jello.   From there it was into the jacuzzi room for the spa, steam, and shower.  But that was only one of the highlights.
If you call ahead, checking into Cache Creek is a breeze.  Reservation manager Andy Orzalli always takes care to make sure everything goes smoothly.   Leslie Smith and Amanda Corrales at the front desk put on the finishing touches with a smile.   And if you have any questions, Guest Relations manager Teresa Orzalli is more than happy to accomodate.    Wow, these guys are spoiling me.
Rooms at Cache Creek are first rate.  We prefer the fifth floor, because that’s where the pool and spa are located.
After a day at the pool and spa, we were ready for dinner. Some of the best meals  I have ever had, have been at the Cache Creek steak house.  It’s a little pricey, but worth it.  The Filet was  as good as you’ll find anywhere,  Joy and I both tried the seafood this trip.  My seabass, and her swordfish was perfect.   Manager Christian Tripodi is a pro, and a master of detail, and wait-persons Jill and Thomas are our favorites.

If you are a "regular" to Cache Creek, you should have a "host."   Your host will do what he or she can to make your gambling experience fun, and may be able to  help in obtaining tickets to shows.  My host is Penny Leonzon, and she is teffrific.
How about the gaming experience?    I prefer playing blackjack on weeknights.  The crowds are much smaller.   Pit boss Mac McCarthy is always accomodating, and a master at his craft.  My favorite dealer is Sue.  She has the pleasing personality  that makes losing almost tolerable.   I said "almost." LOL
Yes, I did lose a little, but they got lucky.  We’ll get ‘em next time.
A final tip.  Take advantage of the valet parking.
The cost of getting to this "staycation" vacation?  About forty dollars for gas. :)

Today’s trivia on KOIT

Q: In which state is it illegal to fall asleep under a hair dryer?

A: Florida.  The owner of the salon can also be fined. This is serious stuff, this falling asleep under a hair dryer business.

Where in the US are the country’s most generous tippers? ‘Turns out it’s Philadelphia, with Philly diners tipping an average 19.6 percent, which seems about right if the service is good. Honolulu is at the bottom of the list with an average of 18 percent. San Francisco was 27th with 18.4 percent. If the service is good, I’m good for 20 percent. Did you ever wait tables? Me? Never. I’d be fired in a heartbeat. Waiters and waitresses have their own website where they can rant about customers who’ve given them trouble. In fact it’s www.waiterrant.net . Some amazing stories there.

Parts of the Embarcadero in San Francisco will be closed Sunday morning from 9 to 1, as part of Mayor Newsom’s “Sunday Streets” program. So the Embarcadero will open up to biking, walking, jogging and other stuff. Lots of kid’s activities, like getting to run the bases at AT&T Park. New York, Portland and Tokyo, among others, have a similar program in place. San Francisco will try it again in September. Try www.sundaystreetssf.com for more info.

Imagine that. When I called the phone company yesterday to upgrade our home phone service, there was no hold time, and the entire transaction was wrapped up in about 2 minutes. But when I told them I wanted to disconnect our Internet service (we’re now on MUCH faster cable Internet service), I was transferred to another department, put on hold for over half an hour, then got a recording telling me that the office was closed. So, they get to charge me for another day of ‘Net service we don’t want or need. Yes, imagine that.

Today’s trivia on KOIT :

Q: What snack food was named simply by taking a name out of the phone book?

A: Pringles

The inventor of the Pringles container,  Fredric Bauer, passed away a few months ago. At his request, his remains were cremated, and the ashes buried in a Pringles tube. No joke.

Wow. After the thrill of the Olympics, it’s the agony of the conventions. Normally, I’m a political junkie. But this year….well, I can’t wait until it’s over. The election, that is.  It’ll be Obama/Biden for me. I’m sorry the Olympic Games are over. Almost as sorry as the suits must be at NBC. The games were a ratings bonanza for the peacock, taking eight of the top ten ratings slots last week. Not to worry. The Winter Games start again in 18 months in Vancouver. NBC again.

Did you like to invent recipes when you were a kid?  Well, it’s been pretty hot where we live in Hooterville the last couple of days. Our eleven year old, Jordan, came in from the heat the other day with his buddy Aaron, and then proceeded to concoct an original smoothie. Here it is: bananas, grapes, strawberries, ginger ale.  Aaron came up with the bright idea of tossing in a few shakes of hot sauce. They liked it. No, I didn’t try it.

I am off to the Cache Creek Casino.  I won’t be on the air again until Wednesday, so Joy and I will be spending Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday at one of our favorite spots.   While I am enjoying myself at the blackjack tables, Joy will be having fun at her favorite "sport;"  being pampered.  She can spend hours in the Cache Creek spa.  It involves getting  a massage, facial, manicure, and steam.   That’s fine with me.  I get some uninterrupted time at the tables. :)
We both enjoy time lazing at the Cache Creek pool area.  Joy prefers the comfort of one of their outdoor cabanas, which keeps the sun off her  precious skin. LOL     Since my skin is not as "precious," I prefer lathering up and working on my tan.
The restaurants at Cache Creek are as good as any in Vegas.  Plus it’s only an hour and a half from the Bay Area.
Now, if only I could win at the tables. :)

This morning’s trivia on KOIT:

Q: Michael Phelps will appear on which cereal box starting in September?

A:  Kellog’s Frosted Flakes !   Yup, Wheaties is out of the running. I wonder how much that cost Tony the Tiger.

Where did the summer go? I’ve stopped asking myself that question a long time ago. One of the things I love about living here is that, despite the calender closing the door on summer soon, some of the warmest months of the year still lie ahead, and I want to take advantage of it. You have to carry me out of summer kicking & screaming. Our boys head back to school this morning, and they’re both OK with it. We’ll just see how long that lasts. When you were in school, when did you find out who your new teacher was going to be?  We always found out on our last report card. These days, parents and kids don’t find out until very late in the summer. In some cases the day before school starts! Teachers have told me that the late notice heads off any wheeling and dealing parents might try to get their kids paired with different teachers.

This morning’s trivia on KOIT

Q: What was the name of the terrier that played the role of Toto in “The Wizard of Oz”, released on this date in 1939?

A: Teri, and she went on to a distinguished movie career, starring in eleven more films.

“Alright, Andrew. You can have an end of summer party here at the house, and you can invite all of your friends.” That’s what Kim and I told our 14 year old a couple of months back. I don’t know what we were thinking. It must have been a moment of weakness, because neither of us are big drinkers. The big day, last Saturday, was approaching. Andrew sent out the invite via his Facebook page, and came up with a guest list of about 20 young men and women. A promise is a promise, so we forged ahead. I called earlier in the day to arrange to have the pizza arrive between 6:30 and 7. The gang started to show a little after 6, and the pies right on time. Never in a million years would I have though I’d ever pay close to 90 dollars (incl. tip for the driver) on pizza. They attacked the first of two party pies, and picked it clean. Think piranha. The second went untouched..for about an hour. Then that one was history. Juice Squeezes and water from Costco, along with a veggie tray, and the kids seemed to be happy. Some were taking turns playing Guitar Hero on the Wii, and others just talking. Then sundown…movie time. We set up the screen in the back yard, dragged out the DVD projector and showed “21″, the Kevin Spacey movie about the card-counting MIT students. We timed it so the movie would end a half hour before parents started picking up. There was some interest in the film, but most were more into sitting on blankets and talking.  I just had to lay the law down twice. Once I had to keep some kids from sitting on the deck railing, and then I had to put an end to the throwing of cherry tomatoes from Kim’s veggie platter.”Hey, NO produce tossing!” Other that that, very well behaved. Parents showed up right on time to pick up their kids (11:00), and right on time to see Michael Phelps swim for #8. We all had a blast, even Kim & I.

I’ve been completely captured by the quality of our U.S. athletes…Michael Phelps is a machine…an amazing quest which is being followed up by actually pulling it off…How does he do it?  By eating over 10,000 calories a day…click here  for the story of Michael’s unusual diet.

Is it Bay zhing? or Bey jing? This is the real conundrum for me because I’ve been hearing Bob Costas and many of NBC’s announcers calling it Bay zhing… a good friend who grew up in Hong Kong and is of Asian descent says Bey Jing

I’m sorry, not knowing or understanding the mystical, mysterious Chinese language and characters…I’ve alway thought it was Bay zhing...
(that’s how it was pronounced where I grew up)

Who’s correct?

The Chinese, of course.

And it’s as simple as 2 Chinese Characters…Bei – Jing…

and it’s explained very well by  “2 Chinese Characters”

Now, you know…Bey Jing!

i’ve had several calls and e-mails asking if I’ve heard from the 96 year old lady i met over a week ago.  You may remember, she bore a striking similarity to my late mother.  So much so, in fact, that she could have been my mom’s twin sister.  Well, the answer is no, I have not heard a word, nor have I seen her.   When we parted company I told her I wanted to take her to lunch, and I gave her my card.  No word.  Not a peep.  Just like a woman…..playing hard to get. :)

                                            JESSICA SIMPSON

Jessica’s new boyfriend?

Yes, she not only was in the building, she was in our conference room.   Jessica was in town plugging her new cd.  I went down to have a look.  Just a quick peek. Her Dallas Cowboy boyfriend Tony Romo was nowhere in sight.   Was this the time for me to “make my move?”  I decided not to cheat on Joy.  She insisted she have her picture taken with me. NOT.  But I did get a photo taken with her.   A real little cutie.  Not beautiful, but cute.
Speaking of cute, my girl friend Joy took a lot of kidding because she never cooks.  Never.  So since her lack of culinary skills was revealed  in this revered blog a few weeks ago, how many meals has she cooked?  Not one.    None. :)                                                   My favorite Olympic sport?  Hands down…..Women’s beach volleyball. :)    Something tells me Michael Phelps might be making a few bucks on endorsements after the olympics.              Have a great weekend.
