Should you snoop around your kids’ emails and text messages?  I say it’s a parent’s job to keep their children safe. So, up to a certain age, it’s OK to look.  The debate is raging at one of our favorite websites that deals with kids and media. It’s called Common Sense Media, and it’s the place where parents and kids can write reviews of  movies, TV shows, and books.

So to our sons Andrew & Jordan:  Mom and I don’t snoop…..much.

This morning’s trivia on KOIT:

Q:  When Alcatraz was still a prison, prisoners in solitary were allowed out of their cells for 10 minutes every….

A:….week. And that was only to shower

After all these years living in the Bay Area, I never realized there was a Bay Area Tarantula Society. Yup, and they’re  having their annual convention Saturday at the Concord Veteran’s Hall. Arachnophiles will be able to trade, sell and buy. I won’t be going, though I think those critters are pretty cool. Snakes, on the other hand……..

To kick off bay Area Dance Week, they’re going to try to create the worlds largest gonga line at Union Square in SF at noon today. Don’t even TRY to explain it to a tourist.

Great weekend!

Marin CO sheriffs were called to George Lucas’  Skywalker Ranch the other day, and they caught an intruder who claimed that she was actually invited to the ranch, telepathically, by Mr. Lucas himself. ‘Happens to me all the time. ‘Cept I wind up at Trader Joe’s for some reason.

Here’s this AM’s KOIT trivia question before I forget:

Q: It was on this date in 1991 that Ed & Rick Coppage recived a patent for their invention….

A:…the bullet proof dress shirt.  Even a .45 won’t crease it.

No joke: a car made out of veggies & chocolate will go 145 mph when it’s launched next month. It’s actually a race car.  Really.  Steering wheel made of carrots, body made of spuds, and a seat made of soybeans. Runs on chocolate (doesn’t say semi-sweet or milk) and vegetable oil. Are we supposed to keep this thing in the garage or the ‘fridge?

Last year SF officials decided to cease or reduce street cleaning in about 20 city neighborhoods to save some dough. And they did…saved about a million dollars in the past year. That’s the good news. The bad news is that they neglected to take into account the parking tickets that WOULDN’T be written for cars parked in what USED to be street-cleaning-no-parking zones…about 3 million dollar’s worth.  Saving a million to lose 3 million.  Several supervisors said a closer look is needed. Ya think?

This is my second day back to work (using that term loosely) after a family vacation in Costa Rica…a fabulous time!. As soon as my family signs off on the idea, I’ll be posting photos of our trip here. Our 15 year old will undoubtedly want some kind of fee.  Smart kid.

It seems as tho Britian’s Got Talent…

Last week it was 47 year old Susan Boyle from Scotland…now a followup with an unflappable 12 year Shaheen Jafargholi from Wales.

Britain’s Got A New Sensation

Tonite 2 on American Idol make their way to the aisles…headed for home…after the magnanimous save by Simon and the judges…let’s see who…

Another hot day here in the Bay Area…how do you keep cool?

Hydrate, sunscreen and stay out of the heat if you can’t take it…

funny, I come to work to escape the heat during the day, and today at 5am the studios AC (temperature controlled building) was not working…

86 degrees…it was like working in a sauna with Julie and Lisa!!!

Have a great cool, day!

April 10th was my birthday.  Joy surprised me by bringing over a chocolate cake.  Chocolate is one of my weaknesses.  I love chocolate more than anything I can think of.   And now, I can enjoy my guilty pleasure even more, cuz See’s candies makes chocolate with no sugar.

Anyway, I notice my cake is adorned with candles.  Joy asks:  “Where are your matches?”   Matches?  I don’t have any matches.  “I don’t smoke, so I don’t need matches, ” I reply.   “Well, how do you light the fire in the fireplace,” Joy queries.

I’ve never ever had a fire in the fireplace.  Joy looks perplexed.  “Well, how do I light the candles on the cake?  I had an idea.  Let’s turn on a burner on the stove, hold the candle wick to the burner, and that should do it.  I held the wick to the burner.  No luck.   All it did was melt the candle.  LOL     Joy pouted.   But hey, the cake was delicious, candles or no candles. :)

Working mornings for Jack opens up a pandora’s box of topics for me…I love baseball and was thrilled to see the A’s win last night against the Red Sox…but even better, one of my favorite ex A’s player, Nick Swisher (who now plays for the Yankees) pitched an inning last night…What?

For real…

Take a peek at Swish pitching…

I used to hear that all the time when I was a kid. See, I had hay fever. ‘Still do. In fact it seems like my allergy season has begun to kick in,  thanks in part to our neighbor’s wisteria. It’s gorgeous, but it’s flyin’ right up my nose.

This morning’s trivia on KOIT:

Q:  When eating a chocolate Easter bunny, what percentage of us go for the ears first?

A:  about  76%.  I’m a tail man myself. Someone actually walked around with clipboard asking people which part of the bunny they bite first?  Really?  OK. It’s a job.

I don’t know why, but we got on a food kick this AM on the KOIT More Music Show.  Actually I’m not surprised, because we’re usually on a food kick. I discovered a new website that collects photos of food too fattening to believe…deep fried cheese steak, the meatlog, and deep fried Tootsie Roll on a stick for example. The site’s called This Is Why You’re Fat. Check it out here.

More foodstuffs. The Lafayette Gallery is displaying the exhibit “Food Glorious Food”…artwork with food as the centerpiece. It’ll be at the gallery on Lafayette Circle through May 9th. If you go to enjoy the show, they ask that you bring a canned good for the Contra Costa Food Bank.

AT&T’s offering a 100k  dollar reward for info leading to the arrest of the scoundrel(s) that slashed the fiber optic cables in the South Bay yesterday cutting land line and cell phone service in the area. The silver lining was a report from teachers saying that, because of the absence of text messaging, students were a little more focused than usual.  I <3 weekends, and I hope you have a good one.

I went to Simply Beautiful again today for my body wrap…yes I actually do the wraps…and I look like I should star in the next movie with Brandon Fraiser, but you know, I just feel so much better afterwards and I really do lose the inches!

I’m not a chemist/doctor, and I can’t begin to tell you exactly how all this works…but it does…I lost another 14 total  inches again today…and my skin always seems to glow and feel so soft the days after the wrap…I go to the San Ramon salon and Janelle always wraps me  (she’s fabulous!)

So if you’ve been thinking about it…please tell them you heard about it from me…ask for the Laurie Sanders wrap (the mini fat burning and the excellerator body wrap) and I know that Michelle and her lovely staff will take care of  you!
