IF SO, THEN THIS LITTLE GUY SHOULD BE IN IT.
This little dog with a big heart is being called a hero after he died protecting the family’s newborn baby.
The front door of a Richmond home was left open early Sunday, & two roaming pit bulls entered. The Pits approached the baby, & that’s when the tiny chihuahua intervened. He placed himself between the infant & the intruding dogs, & that’s when they got him.
The pits dragged the little dog outside & killed him. But that action may have saved the baby.
But at this writing, two questions remain unanswered: Why was the front door open? And why were the pit bulls running around without a leash?
The owners of the pit bulls were found, & a dangerous dog hearing could be held to determine what to do with the pair of pits.
IF THERE IS “A CHIHUAHUA HALL OF FAME,” then here’s a vote for this little guy. Let’s call him “Rocky.” :)

HURRICANE ALEX IS CHURNING WESTWARD THROUGH THE GULF OF MEXICO. IT’S FAR FROM THE OIL SPILL CLEANUP EFFORTS BUT HEADED FOR MEXICO AND THE SOUTHERN TEXAS COASTLINE. BANDS OF INTENSE RAIN HAVE BEEN LASHING DEEP SOUTH TEXAS AND NORTHEAST MEXICO AND LANDFALL HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK TO LATE TONIGHT OR EARLY TOMORROW.

THE DEFENSE IN THE JOHANNES MEHSERLE TRIAL HAS RESTED. THE FORMER BART POLICE OFFICER IS ACCUSED OF KILLING 22 YEAR OLD OSCAR GRANT ON A BART PLATFORM ON NEW YEAR’S DAY 2009. MEHSERLE TESTIFIED THAT HE ACCIDENTALLY PULLED OUT HIS HANDGUN INSTEAD OF HIS TASER. JURY DELIBERATIONS COULD BEGIN TOMORROW.

SUPREME COURT NOMINEE ELENA KAGAN FACES ANOTHER DAY OF QUESTIONS BY THE SENATE TODAY. YESTERDAY SHE TRIED TO ASSURE CONSERVATIVES THAT HER WORK AS A CLINTON WHITE HOUSE AIDE WOULD NOT MAKE HER A PARTISAN JUDGE. REPUBLICANS WHO OPPOSE HER NOMINATION WILL NEED TO RESORT TO A FILIBUSTER TO BLOCK A CONFIRMATION VOTE.

A STRONG EARTHQUAKE HAS RATTLED SOUTHERN MEXICO. THE 6.2 QUAKE WAS CENTERED IN A SPARSELY POPULATED, MOUNTAINOUS AREA NEAR THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC COAST. THE QUAKE SWAYED BUILDINGS 220 MILES AWAY IN MEXICO CITY, SENDING PEOPLE FLEEING INTO THE STREETS AND PARKS BUT THERE WAS NO DAMAGE.

….for big bridge toll changes.  Click here for info. If we all do our homework, should be smooth.

This morning’s trivia on KOIT:

Q: Back in 1886, Josephine Cochrane invented the…..

A:….dishwasher. You had to crank it by hand. Ms. Cochrane proclaimed “If nobody else is going to invent a dishwashing machine, I’ll do it myself.” Her servants kept breaking dishes when they washed them.

DO YOU KEEP YOUR BREAD IN THE REFRIGERATOR? YEAH, SO DID I….UNTIL NOW.
I always thought that kept it fresher. Hmm I think it was grandma that told me that. LOL
But it will stay fresher longer in a cabinet. Condensation & fluctuating temperatures cause breads to dry out faster. The same is true for certain produce. MELONS & ORANGES will spoil faster at cooler temps, & that goes for tomatoes too. They’re better off on the kitchen counter than in the fridge.
AND HOW ABOUT THOSE CONDIMENTS? Some people choose NOT to refrigerate ketchup, mustard, & even mayonnaise, but both HEINZ & HELLMAN’S recommend that we DO refrigerate them after opening for the best taste quality.

TROPICAL STORM ALEX IS EXPECTED TO TURN INTO A HURRICANE TODAY AS IT HEADS TOWARD THE GULF COAST OF NORTHERN MEXICO AND SOUTHERN TEXAS. THE STORM’S LIKELY PATH SHOULD TAKE IT AWAY FROM THE SITE OF THE GULF OIL SPILL OFF THE LOUISIANA COAST. WORKERS ALONG THE SOUTH TEXAS COAST ARE CLEARING DRAINAGE DITCHES, FILLING SANDBAGS AND PREPARING SHELTERS.

THE 2ND DAY OF CONFIRMATION HEARINGS HAS BEGUN FOR SUPREME COURT NOMINEE ELENA KAGAN. SHE’S CALLING THE CONSTITUTION A LIVING DOCUMENT, SAYING ITS FRAMERS WROTE IT TO LAST THROUGH EVER-CHANGING CIRCUMSTANCES. REPUBLICAN CRITICS HAVE WARNED KAGAN WILL LEGISLATE FROM THE BENCH.

SUSPECTED U.S. MISSILES HAVE HIT A HOUSE IN A PAKISTANI TRIBAL REGION ALONG THE AFGHAN BORDER WHERE THE ARMY HAS BEEN BATTLING TALIBAN FIGHTERS. AT LEAST 10 SUSPECTED MILITANTS HAVE BEEN KILLED INCLUDING A POSSIBLE AL-QAIDA OPERATIVE.

THE FATHER OF A 7 YEAR OLD OREGON BOY MISSING FOR MORE THAN 3 WEEKS HAS FILED FOR DIVORCE FROM THE BOY’S STEPMOTHER. POLICE SAY SHE’S THE LAST KNOWN PERSON TO HAVE SEEN KYRON HORMAN ALIVE BEFORE HE DISAPPEARED FROM HIS PORTLAND SCHOOL JUNE 4TH. AUTHORITIES SAY TERRI HORMAN IS NEITHER A PERSON OF INTEREST NOR A SUSPECT.

WHY DOES IT FEEL SO GOOD TO BE IN LOVE?
It’s because some of the most powerful brain circuits for pleasure are triggered. The main chemical involved is dopamine, which produces feelings of euphoria, energy, sleeplessness, & focused attention on your “main squeeze.”
KLUTZY DATES
IT’S A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE ON A FIRST DATE WHEN YOU DO THINGS LIKE DROP YOUR FORK, OR KNOCK OVER THE WATER GLASS, OR (GOD FORBID) SPILL YOUR WINE. LOL
While embarrassing, these gaffes are actually a good sign. Rutgers University researchers found that when you have a serious chemistry with your date, your body produces elevated levels of a substance that can make you jittery, uncoordinated, & a little accident prone.
Personally, it affected me slightly differently. It was my first date with a girl named “Heidi.” Twice, I called her “Debbie.” (names changed to protect the innocent). That was our only date. LOL :)

THINK OF THIS-MANY PEOPLE LIVING IN NURSING HOMES TODAY ARE NOT REALLY SICK-THEY’VE JUST LOST THEIR STRENGTH.
They can’t get up out of a chair, or walk very far, or unscrew the cap on the ketchup; the simple things that allow a person to be independent. So they wind up in a nursing home. :(
Several studies have been done on elderly people in nursing homes, where they were placed in WEIGHT TRAINING CLASSES. That’s right, they “pumped iron.” Obviously, they start with very light weights-& the purpose is to just get some of their basic strength back.
THE RESULTS ARE ALWAYS IMPRESSIVE-EVEN ON PEOPLE IN THEIR 90′S. After a short time, they:
*Have improved balance & mobility.
*Can lift & reach things easier.
*See a decline in injuries & falls. :)

Although aerobic activity-like walking-is good…..getting parents & grandparents into the habit of lifting light weights can keep them independent & out of a nursing home for a long time. :)

THERE ARE SOME QUESTIONS YOU SHOULD ASK THE KENNEL:
1. WHERE WILL MY DOG STAY? Ask to see the space. It’s important that the environment be organized & odor-free.
2. HOW OFTEN WILL BE DOG BE WALKED? If you want a space for your dog to run, be sure the kennel has one.
3. WHAT WILL MY DOG EAT? Boarding can be stressful enough, & a change of diet can add to that. It’s a good idea to leave a supply of your pooch’s food at the kennel.
4. When choosing a boarding facility, ask your vet for a recommendation You’ll enjoy a trip a lot more if you know your dog is in good hands.
5. A TIP: MY BOSS highly recommends the Tamalpais Pet Hospital in Mill Valley. :)

WHEN DO YOU BRUSH YOUR TEETH?
The first brushing should be BEFORE you eat breakfast to get rid of the of the overnight bacteria that food will interact with. Then, rinse after breakfast.
THE NEXT MOST IMPORTANT TIME TO BRUSH IS BEFORE BED.
Late night snacks-after you’ve brushed-are really bad for your teeth & gums. There’s very little saliva while you sleep, & you’ll be more prone to gum inflammation or infection.
And yes, you should brush at least twice a day, & make it a full two minutes each time. :)
