Q: Kishiwada, Japan is the sister city for which Bay Area town?

A: South San Francisco

As you may know by now Lisa Daley and I have a friendly wager going on with the Giants/Phillies league championship about to start. She’s orange and black all the way. Having grown up in Philadelphia, I’ll be wearing red and white. If the Phils win, she owes me a crab sandwich from The Wharf, and I’ll buy her a cheesesteak if the Giants emerge victorious. Julie Shannon wisely remains neutral. Problem is, I haven’t really found an authentic cheesesteak since moving to the Bay Area more than 25 years ago. An ideas?

Now, THIS is authentic:

This mess is not:

Alfred Hitchcock was born on this date in 1899, and he shot several of his best films here in the Bay Area. Did you know he had cameos in almost all of his movies? Take a look:

This morning’s trivia on KOIT:

Q: There was supposed to be a fifth face carved into the side of Mt. Rushmore. Who was it supposed to be?

A: Susan B. Anthony was planned, but they ran out of $$. Right now there are (l to r) Washington, Jefferson, T.Roosevelt, and Lincoln.

The backpacks were flying off the shelves yesterday at Sacred Heart Community Service in San Jose. Thousands of them filled with school supplies for kids that don’t have the cash for the back to school stuff they need. And the need seems to get greater every year. Each packed backpack costs about40 bucks to put together, and they plan to hand out close to fifteen thousand of them around The Bay by the end of August. Our friends at The Family Giving Tree are doing the heavy lifting again this year, and they could sure use some help.
