That how His Honor ruled in throwing out a summons issued to a man wearing the low, low-slung pants that exposed his skivvies.

JUDGE RUBEN FRANCO SAID THAT THE SUMMONS APPEARED TO BE AN ATTEMPT BY A POLICE OFFICER TO SHOW HIS DISPLEASURE WITH THE STYLE.

I think the baggy jeans have to be the worst fashion statement since…..well….panty hose.

I HAVE A TEEN AGED FRIEND-WHO WEARS JEANS WITH A REAR THAT ALMOST TOUCHES THE GROUND. I TOLD HIM THAT IN ALMOST ALL SURVEYS ASKING WOMEN WHAT THEY FIND ATTRACTIVE IN A MAN, A GUYS’ BUTT IS NEAR THE TOP. (He didn’t seem impressed). I SAID: “JON, YOU DON’T LOOK LIKE YOU EVEN HAVE A BEHIND. IT’S ALL SAGGY PANTS.”

I told him I would pay for a pair of “skinny jeans” if he gave up the baggies. Even that didn’t do it. And he’s 18. At what age do teenagers give up those things?

REMEMBER THE OLDER GUY THAT EVEN WROTE A PARODY ABOUT THEM: “YOUR PANTS ON THE GROUND?” He was on “American Idol.”

Well, as the judge said in his decision: “Many may find the low-slung trouser trend distasteful & foolish.” But he says people can dress how they want as long as they “do not offend public order & decency.” In other words, keep your undies undercover.

Harvard’s Dr. Michael Charness said this German study was the first to show the brain can physically repair itself after drinking stops.

The young lady in the photo, Monica Plum of Powhatan, Va heard a news story 2 years ago of a dog that survived a fire because of a specially designed oxygen mask for pets. She conducted research and then did some fundraising so the 5 firetrucks in her county could carry the equipment. She met her goal and then some.

I happen to hate snakes too…only the ones that are poisonous…at first they startle me (for good reason)  then I check to see what KIND of snake they are and THEN I panic…gopher snake…ok…you can pass…you’re cool…go and eat some ground squirrels…but a rattler…I can backpeddle pretty fast.  I ride out in the east bay hills, mainly Pleasanton ridge, and I’m happy to say that I have yet to encounter a rattler this season, but for all intents and purposes, SNAKES are prevalant this year…

Doug Bell, wildlife program manager for the East Bay Regional Park District, said excellent habitat and feed conditions have benefited snakes and most wildlife. He called it “a spectacular snake year.”

It’s become common this month to see lots of snakes at Bay Area parks, from the Central Valley into the foothills across California, and in the high country of the southern Sierra.

Heavy rain this spring was the trigger. High forage supported lots of ground squirrels, mice, gophers, small rabbits and lizards. That provided a ton of food for rattlesnakes and gopher snakes. Other critters have shared in the feast, including bobcat, fox, coyote, and raptors such as golden eagles, hawks, falcons and owls.

How can you tell a “good snake” – gopher snake from a “bad snake” – rattler?

Rattlesnakes are important members of the natural community. They will not attack, but if disturbed or cornered, they will defend themselves. Reasonable watchfulness should be sufficient to avoid snakebite. Give them distance and respect.

I WISH IT HAD BEEN FUN.

IT STARTED OUT AS A CASE OF THE FLU. I TOOK THE USUAL OVER THE COUNTER REMEDIES, & spent the first weekend in bed. On Monday, I felt a little better, & went to work. But something was wrong.

WHEN I SPOKE, I SOUNDED LIKE A PIECE OF SANDPAPER WAS RUBBING AGAINST THE VOCAL CORDS. MY Boss was sympathetic. He knew a case of laryngitis when he heard it.

‘TAKE A COUPLE DAYS OFF & GET BETTER,’ HE SAID.

I managed to get a late afternoon appointment with my Doc. He said I had an upper-respiratory infection & it was dripping all the junk onto my vocal cords. He scribbled a prescription. He said this should take care of the problem. ” If you’re not better by Friday, come back & see me.”

THURSDAY, THE VOICE WAS WORSE, & I WAS STARTING TO PANIC. I CALLED THE DOC. HE SAID COME IN THE NEXT MORNING.
He checked me out. His expression was serous.

HMMMMMM. HE SAID: “IT WAS TIME TO USE STEROIDS.” HE WROTE ME A PRESCRIPTION.
Only 6 pills?? “Yep,” bubbled the pharmacist. “That should be enough to get you your voice back.”

HE WAS RIGHT. By Monday, I was 90 percent better. Tuesday, I’m back at work.

Hmmmmmm. Maybe all those athletes knew what they were doing.

Kitchen Nightmares, the FOX program featuring celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay spitting out food and screaming at people, is looking for a new serving of reality television victims in San Francisco.

So if you or someone you know is running a restaurant into the ground, this might be a shot to turn things around — or at least be embarrassed on cable television.

The online application includes questions like “List Five Things the Restaurant needs Help With” and “Why should Gordon Ramsay pick you and your restaurant?”

Applicants are also encouraged to submit a video audition. Ramsay loves complaining about kitchen cleanliness and lazy chefs serving frozen food, so it might be time to look into the dark corners of the walk-in for some juicy rant-bait.
